Before I trained as a Counselling Psychologist I worked for many years in television news and documentary programme-making as a producer and director, for the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5 and American broadcasters.
My psychology training took place at the University of West London (formerly Thames Valley University) and City, University of London, where I completed my doctorate in Counselling Psychology.
My counselling psychology practice has been in an NHS counselling and psychology service, a large GP practice, a hospital department for patients who are chronically or terminally ill, in a university student counselling service, and as a bereavement counsellor.
I engage in continuing professional development (CPD) on a regular basis.
As well as a being a practising counselling psychologist I am a lecturer in counselling psychology at City, University of London. I teach and am a tutor on the DPsych Counselling Psychology and in the wider psychology department, and supervise a range of trainee counselling psychologist’s research projects.
I am a qualitative researcher, and am interested in the links between the mind and body in health and illness, and the ways in which individuals and society relate to medical technology. I have a particular specialism in living non-directed or altruistic kidney donation, in which I have carried out in-depth qualitative research. I continue to write on this subject.
